History of Wyoming

Evidence shows that Wyoming has occupation dated back to prehistoric times. Clovis people roamed the area 12,000 years ago. Many followed for big game hunting and gathering. Following the prehistoric groups were the predecessors of the historic Indians. Built on the crest of Medicine Mountain is the Medicine Wheel. This is an ancient shrine which has twenty eight spokes and a circumference of two hundred and forty five feet made of stone. This shrine still remains one of Wyoming`s unsolved puzzles. One of the earliest explores of Wyoming was John Colter. He began his explorations in 1807. During exploration of the Rocky Mountains he discovered a region of the Rockies` with steaming geysers and towering water falls. In 1807 this area has become known as Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone is the world`s first National Park. Wyoming soon became popular by trappers to the Rocky Mountains for their fondness of the beaver top hat. Many famous mountain men came from Wyoming.
